Classic Red Candy Apples are a festive and nostalgic fall treat featuring tart Granny Smith apples dipped in a sweet, glossy red candy coating. Perfect for Halloween, parties, or fair-style fun at home.

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 16 drops red food coloring

Equipment:

  • 6 wooden sticks or skewers
  • Candy thermometer

Instructions

  1. Grease a parchment-lined baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Insert a wooden stick into each apple, pushing halfway through.
  3. In a heavy saucepan over medium-high heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, food coloring, and water.
  4. Bring to a boil and cook until temperature reaches 300°F–310°F (hard crack stage), about 15–20 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and let bubbles settle for about 30 seconds.
  6. Dip and swirl each apple in the hot candy coating, then place on the prepared sheet to set.
  7. Let apples cool completely at room temperature before serving.

Notes

  • Add a drop of cinnamon oil or vanilla for extra flavor.
  • Switch food coloring to black or purple for a spooky effect.
  • Roll in nuts, sprinkles, or glitter before the coating sets for added texture.
  • Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place—avoid refrigeration.
