A cozy fall treat, this Amish Apple Fritter Bread features layers of cinnamon-sugar apples swirled through a moist quick bread loaf and topped with a sweet glaze. It’s easy to make, beautifully spiced, and perfect for breakfast, dessert, or gifting.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for apple mixture)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for apple mixture)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (for cinnamon swirl)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for cinnamon swirl)
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 12 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a small bowl, mix diced apples with 2 tbsp granulated sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, combine brown sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon for the swirl. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix melted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  6. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Layer with half of the apple mixture and half of the cinnamon swirl. Repeat with remaining batter, apples, and swirl.
  8. Use a knife to gently swirl the layers together in the pan.
  9. Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the bread cool completely, then drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

Notes

  • Toss apples with flour before adding to the batter to prevent sinking.
  • Can be made without glaze for a less sweet option.
  • Use a mix of apple varieties for balanced flavor.
  • Wrap tightly and store at room temperature or freeze for up to 3 months.
