These Apple Brownies (also known as Apple Blondies) are chewy, spiced dessert bars loaded with fresh apples, warm spices, and optional add-ins like nuts or dried fruit. Perfect for cozy afternoons or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla extract to the wet mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in diced apples and optional nuts or dried fruit.
  7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Slice into 12 to 16 squares and serve.
