Cherry Chocolate Chewy Cookies are soft and golden, packed with rich semisweet chocolate chips and sweet maraschino cherries. These bakery-style cookies are easy to make and full of nostalgic flavor—perfect for holiday trays, cookie swaps, or everyday treats.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained, chopped, and blotted dry
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  5. Gently fold in chopped cherries and chocolate chips.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and centers appear slightly soft.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Swap semisweet chocolate chips with dark, milk, or white chocolate for different flavor profiles.
  • Use rehydrated dried cherries as a substitute for maraschino cherries if preferred.
  • Add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra texture and flavor.
  • Freeze individual dough portions for fresh cookies anytime—just bake straight from frozen.
