Chipotle Turkey Chili with Black Beans is a hearty and smoky chili made with lean ground turkey, black beans, tomatoes, and bold chipotle peppers for a rich, comforting meal with balanced heat.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 can (14–15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • Optional toppings: sliced avocado, shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking apart as it cooks.
  3. Stir in chopped onion and red bell pepper and cook 4–5 minutes until softened.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  5. Stir in chopped chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, black beans, and chicken broth.
  7. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.
  9. Serve hot with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Add corn or diced zucchini for extra vegetables.
  • Increase chipotle peppers or add cayenne for more heat.
  • Simmer uncovered longer for a thicker chili.
  • Add a squeeze of lime juice for brightness.
  • Store in refrigerator for up to 4 days.
