Cream cheese chicken is a rich and comforting dish where tender chicken is coated in a creamy, garlicky sauce made with cream cheese, Parmesan, and herbs. It’s a quick, indulgent meal that pairs perfectly with pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning or a mix of dried basil, oregano, and thyme
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken on both sides until golden and cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Reduce heat and add minced garlic to the same skillet. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add chicken broth and cream cheese, whisking until smooth.
  5. Stir in heavy cream (or milk), Parmesan, and Italian seasoning. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  6. Return chicken to the skillet. Spoon sauce over the chicken and let simmer for a few minutes to combine flavors.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Add spinach, mushrooms, or sun-dried tomatoes for extra flavor.
  • Use flavored cream cheese (e.g., garlic and herb) for variation.
  • Swap heavy cream with milk or half-and-half for a lighter version.
  • For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
  • Can be made ahead and reheated with a splash of broth or milk.
