This Creamy Garlic Butter Sweet Potato Bake is a comforting side dish featuring thinly sliced sweet potatoes layered with a rich garlic-infused cream sauce, baked until bubbly and golden. It’s the perfect blend of sweet, savory, and creamy.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 1/8-inch thick)
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Peel and thinly slice sweet potatoes using a mandoline or sharp knife.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  4. Stir in heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
  5. Arrange sweet potato slices in overlapping layers in the baking dish, pouring a bit of the cream sauce between layers.
  6. Pour remaining sauce over the top, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove foil, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese (if using), and bake uncovered for another 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for 5–10 minutes before serving for best texture.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline for evenly sliced potatoes and quicker prep.
  • Try Gruyère or mozzarella for a richer variation.
  • For a dairy-free version, use coconut cream and plant-based butter.
  • Add smoked paprika for a smoky twist.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs for extra flavor and presentation.
