Crispy Honey Garlic Tofu is a vegetarian-friendly dish featuring golden, pan-fried or baked tofu coated in a sticky, sweet-savory garlic sauce. It’s satisfying, flavorful, and perfect served over rice, noodles, or with veggies for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • For the Crispy Tofu:
  • 14 oz extra-firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • 12 tbsp neutral oil (for pan-frying or baking)
  • For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
  • 3 tbsp honey (or maple syrup for vegan)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (for slurry)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Press tofu for 15–20 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss tofu with soy sauce, garlic powder, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Pan-fry tofu in a skillet with oil over medium heat until all sides are golden and crispy, or bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine honey, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, and water. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Mix cornstarch with a splash of water to make a slurry, then stir it into the simmering sauce. Cook for 2–3 minutes until thickened and glossy.
  6. Toss cooked tofu in the sauce until fully coated. Serve immediately over rice, noodles, or veggies.

Notes

  • Make it vegan by using maple syrup or agave instead of honey.
  • Use tamari or coconut aminos for a gluten-free version.
  • Air fry tofu at 400°F for 15 minutes, shaking halfway through.
  • Add steamed or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Reheat leftovers in a skillet to maintain crispiness.
