Crockpot Swiss Steak

A classic crockpot Swiss steak made with tender slow-cooked beef simmered in a rich tomato gravy with onions and peppers for an easy, comforting home-style meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb round steak or cube steak
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Season the steak with salt, black pepper, and paprika, then lightly dredge in flour.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the steak on both sides.
  3. Place the browned steak in the bottom of the crockpot.
  4. Add the sliced onion, bell pepper, and garlic over the steak.
  5. In a bowl, mix diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Pour the tomato mixture over the steak and vegetables.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 7–8 hours or on high for 4–5 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.
  8. Gently stir before serving.

Notes

  • Browning the steak adds extra depth of flavor.
  • Cube steak can be used for an even more tender result.
  • Add mushrooms for extra richness.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
