Drop Style Christmas Sugar Cookies are festive, soft, and chewy sugar cookies that skip the rolling and cutting. Rolled in colorful sugar or sprinkles, they’re easy to make and perfect for holiday parties, cookie exchanges, or gifting.

Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Colored sanding sugar or sprinkles (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir just until combined.
  6. Use a cookie scoop or spoon to form dough balls, then roll each in colored sugar or sprinkles.
  7. Place on prepared baking sheet, spacing a couple inches apart.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are set but centers are still soft.
  9. Cool on the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Add citrus zest for a fresh twist.
  • Use crushed peppermint or themed sprinkles for variation.
  • Swap colored sugar with rainbow or pastel sugar for other seasons.
  • Dough does not need chilling—bake right away.
  • Freeze baked cookies or dough balls for longer storage.
