These Dubai Pistachio Kunafa Brownies are a decadent fusion of fudgy, rich brownies, crispy buttery kunafa pastry, and the nutty elegance of pistachios. Perfectly balancing chocolate indulgence with Middle Eastern flair, they’re luxurious, unique, and irresistibly textured.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz kunafa pastry (shredded phyllo)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 batch fudgy brownie batter (homemade or from a box mix)
  • 1/2 cup chopped unsalted pistachios
  • 23 tbsp sweetened condensed milk or sugar syrup (optional, for drizzling)
  • Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Toss the kunafa pastry with melted butter until evenly coated.
  3. Press half of the buttery kunafa into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form a crunchy base.
  4. Pour the brownie batter over the kunafa and spread evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining kunafa on top and press gently so it adheres.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the brownie center is set but still fudgy.
  7. Remove from oven and scatter chopped pistachios over the top. Drizzle with sweetened condensed milk or sugar syrup if desired.
  8. Allow to cool before slicing into squares or rectangles. Garnish with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings if using.

Notes

  • Add a layer of Nutella or chocolate spread between the kunafa and brownie layers for extra indulgence.
  • Mix a little cardamom or rosewater into the kunafa layer for aromatic flavor.
  • Top with white chocolate drizzle for contrast.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • To re-crisp kunafa, warm in a low oven (300°F / 150°C) for a few minutes before serving.
