This Easy Black Forest Wreath is a festive holiday dessert inspired by the classic Black Forest cake. Featuring layers of chocolate cake, whipped cream, and cherry filling arranged in a beautiful wreath shape, it’s indulgent, eye-catching, and simple to assemble.

Ingredients

  • 1 chocolate cake (bundt, tube, or round – homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling or canned cherries in syrup
  • 2 cups whipped cream (stabilized or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate shavings or curls
  • Optional: 2 tbsp kirsch or cherry liqueur
  • Optional garnish: fresh cherries, powdered sugar, mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Bake and cool chocolate cake in a bundt or tube pan. If using a round cake, cut out a center to form a wreath shape.
  2. Slice the cake horizontally into two layers.
  3. Spread whipped cream on the bottom layer and top with cherry filling.
  4. Place the top layer back on and gently press to secure.
  5. Cover the top with more whipped cream, piping swirls or rosettes if desired.
  6. Decorate with additional cherries, chocolate shavings, and optional garnishes.
  7. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving to let flavors meld.

Notes

  • Arrange chocolate sponge cake rolls in a circle for a rolled wreath variation.
  • Drizzle melted chocolate or ganache over the top for extra decadence.
  • Use angel food cake and whipped coconut cream for a lighter version.
  • Create mini wreaths by decorating cupcakes in a ring.
  • Use a vegetable peeler on a chocolate bar to make shavings.
