German Rum Balls are rich, no-bake chocolate treats blended with nuts, cookie crumbs, and a splash of dark rum. Perfect for the holidays or any time you crave a quick and indulgent sweet bite.

Ingredients

  • 200g dark or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 100g butter, softened
  • 150g powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp dark rum
  • 200g crushed cookies or biscuit crumbs (e.g., digestive or vanilla wafers)
  • 100g ground nuts (hazelnuts or almonds)
  • Cocoa powder, shredded coconut, or sprinkles for rolling

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate and butter together until smooth, then let cool slightly.
  2. Stir in the powdered sugar, rum, crushed cookies, and ground nuts until well combined into a thick mixture.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for about 1 hour to firm up the mixture.
  4. Once chilled, roll small portions into balls using your hands.
  5. Roll each ball in cocoa powder, shredded coconut, or sprinkles for coating.
  6. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Flavor improves after a day or two of chilling.
  • Use rum extract for a non-alcoholic version, though the flavor will be milder.
