A quick, budget-friendly take on the classic Philly cheesesteak made with ground beef, sautéed peppers and onions, melty cheese, and toasted hoagie rolls. Perfect for easy dinners or game-day meals.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion (yellow or white), thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices provolone, American, or mozzarella cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sandwich buns
  • 2 tbsp butter (for toasting rolls)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • Optional: mayo or hot sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil or butter. Sauté bell pepper and onion for 6–8 minutes until soft and caramelized.
  2. Push vegetables to the side and add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  3. Add garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together and let cook for 2–3 more minutes.
  4. Reduce heat and lay cheese slices over the mixture. Cover briefly to melt, then stir to combine.
  5. Butter and toast hoagie rolls until golden and crisp.
  6. Scoop beef mixture into toasted rolls and serve hot with optional mayo or hot sauce.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Add mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor and texture.
  • Serve filling over rice or in lettuce wraps for a low-carb option.
  • Try cheddar or pepper jack for a cheese twist.
  • Store filling separately and toast rolls fresh before serving leftovers.
