Heart-Shaped Skewers are a fun, festive way to serve snacks and treats for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or themed parties. With heart-shaped fruits, cheeses, or sweets arranged on skewers, they’re quick to assemble, adorable to look at, and totally customizable.

Ingredients

  • 812 wooden or bamboo skewers
  • 46 strawberries, halved and carved into heart shapes
  • 1 cup watermelon or cantaloupe, cut into hearts using a mini cookie cutter
  • 1 cup cheese slices or cubes, shaped into hearts
  • 1/2 cup grapes
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls (optional)
  • 1/2 cup brownie bites or marshmallows (for sweet version)
  • Fresh mint or basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Deli meats, folded into heart shapes (optional)
  • Mini pancakes or waffles (for breakfast skewers)

Instructions

  1. Wash and prepare all fruits and vegetables. Cut larger items into bite-sized pieces and shape them into hearts using a mini cookie cutter or knife.
  2. For strawberries, slice in half and cut a small “V” at the top to form hearts.
  3. Thread ingredients onto skewers, alternating colors and textures. Angle heart-shaped items so the tops face outward.
  4. Repeat with all skewers until desired number is complete.
  5. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 24 hours (avoid browning fruits like bananas or avocado for make-ahead).

Notes

  • Use toothpicks or lollipop sticks for smaller or kid-friendly versions.
  • Pair savory skewers with balsamic glaze or hummus, and sweet skewers with chocolate or yogurt dip.
  • Add mini sandwiches or pancakes for a lunch or breakfast version.
  • Let kids help with assembly—it’s a fun and safe kitchen activity!
  • Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 1 day.
