Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 cup orzo pasta
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
1/2 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper, to taste
Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
Fresh basil or parsley (optional, for garnish)
2 cups water or broth
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
Add diced onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.
Stir in crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Add uncooked orzo and 2 cups of water or broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 10–12 minutes until orzo is tender.
Stir in the cream and simmer for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with Parmesan and fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
Use crushed tomatoes for a chunky texture or tomato sauce for a smoother finish.
Swap ground beef with ground turkey, sausage, or plant-based alternatives for variety.
Add spinach or zucchini for extra veggies.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
Reheat with a splash of cream or water to loosen the sauce.
