Ingredients

  • 10 medium apples, quartered
  • 1 large orange, sliced
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 tsp whole allspice
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar or maple syrup (to taste)
  • 12 cups water

Instructions

  2. Add the apples and orange to a large pot.
  3. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice.
  4. Pour in enough water to fully cover the fruit.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 2 hours.
  6. Once the fruit is very soft, gently mash with a potato masher.
  7. Simmer for an additional 30 minutes.
  8. Strain the cider through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, pressing gently.
  9. Stir in brown sugar or maple syrup to taste and serve warm.
