A rich, smoky, sweet, and tangy homemade BBQ sauce made with pantry staples and fully customizable to suit grilling, dipping, or glazing.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk until smooth and fully combined.
  3. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  4. Reduce heat to low and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before using or storing.

Notes

  • Add liquid smoke for extra smoky flavor.
  • Increase honey for a sweeter honey BBQ sauce.
  • Thin with additional water if a lighter consistency is desired.
  • Blend for an ultra-smooth texture.
