Homemade Chocolate Truffles are decadent, creamy bites made from rich ganache and rolled in your choice of toppings like cocoa powder, nuts, or coconut. Perfect for holidays, gifts, or indulgent treats, they’re easy to make and irresistibly luxurious.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz high-quality dark or semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cocoa powder, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or sprinkles (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Place chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
  2. Heat cream in a small saucepan until it just begins to simmer, then pour over the chocolate.
  3. Let sit for 1 minute, then stir gently until smooth and fully melted into a ganache.
  4. Stir in butter (if using), vanilla extract, and salt. Let cool slightly, then cover and refrigerate for 1–2 hours until firm.
  5. Once chilled, use a small scoop or spoon to portion and roll into balls.
  6. Roll each truffle in desired coatings such as cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or sprinkles.
  7. Chill again briefly before serving or packaging for gifts.

Notes

  • Infuse cream with espresso, citrus zest, or liqueurs for flavor variations.
  • Use milk or white chocolate for a sweeter option.
  • Roll in freeze-dried fruit powder or crushed cookies for texture.
  • Dip in tempered chocolate for a crisp shell and shiny finish.
  • Store in the fridge and let come to room temp before serving for best texture.
