Crispy, golden homemade mozzarella sticks with a gooey, cheesy center—perfect for snacking, parties, or game nights. Easy to prep and freeze for frying anytime.

Ingredients

  • 1 block mozzarella cheese (16 oz), cut into sticks
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 ½ cups bread crumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Oil, for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Cut mozzarella into sticks about 3–4 inches long.
  2. Set up a breading station: one bowl with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with bread crumbs seasoned with Italian herbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dredge each stick in flour, dip into egg, and coat in bread crumbs. Repeat egg and breadcrumb steps for a double coating.
  4. Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (177°C). Fry sticks in small batches for 2–3 minutes, until golden and crisp.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with marinara or dipping sauce of choice.

Notes

  • Use string cheese for convenience instead of a block.
  • Try paprika, cayenne, or Parmesan in the bread crumbs for added flavor.
  • Bake instead of fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes with a spray of oil.
  • Freeze uncooked sticks for up to 2 months and fry straight from the freezer.
  • Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway.
