This Homemade Tomato Pizza Sauce is quick, easy, and packed with rich tomato flavor and Italian herbs. Made in just 15 minutes with pantry staples, it’s perfect for pizza, dipping, or pasta. Once you try it, you’ll never go back to store-bought sauce.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz can diced tomatoes (or 34 fresh tomatoes, chopped)
  • Olive oil
  • Garlic, minced
  • Sugar
  • Bay leaf
  • Dried oregano
  • Dried basil
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add minced garlic and sauté just until fragrant—do not let it brown.
  2. Stir in diced tomatoes, sugar, oregano, basil, bay leaf, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper.
  3. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  4. Remove bay leaf, cool slightly, and use on pizza or as desired.

Notes

  • Use crushed tomatoes for a smoother sauce.
  • Fresh tomatoes give a vibrant flavor; peel and chop before using.
  • Add smoked paprika for a smoky twist.
  • Stir in fresh basil or parsley at the end for added brightness.
  • Doubles easily and freezes beautifully.
