Irresistible Homemade Churros are golden, crispy fried dough pastries coated in cinnamon sugar with a soft, airy inside—perfect for dipping in chocolate or caramel and making at home just like the fair‑stand favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup all‑purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • For coating: ½ cup granulated sugar + 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Optional dips: chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, dulce de leche

Instructions

  1. Combine water, butter, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until it forms a smooth ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Let the dough cool for a few minutes, then beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully pipe 4–6‑inch strips of dough directly into the oil, cutting with scissors.
  6. Fry churros in batches for about 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. While still warm, roll each churro in the cinnamon‑sugar coating until well covered.
  9. Serve immediately with chocolate, caramel, or dulce de leche for dipping.

Notes

  • Fill churros with chocolate or dulce de leche after frying using a piping bag and narrow tip.
  • Add cocoa powder to the dough or dip ends in melted chocolate for a chocolate‑twist version.
  • Make mini bite‑sized churros for parties—they fry faster and are fun to dip.
  • For a spicy‑sweet version, mix a pinch of cayenne into the cinnamon sugar coating.
