Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs steak (sirloin, ribeye, or NY strip), cut into bite-sized cubes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter (for searing)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for sauce)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for sauce)
  • Optional: parsley, crushed red pepper, or Italian seasoning
  • 2 lbs Russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 3 tbsp butter (for potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for potatoes)

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk or cream, sour cream (if using), shredded cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Season steak cubes with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steak bites for 2–3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to desired doneness. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté garlic for 1 minute.
  5. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a simmer.
  6. Stir in parmesan cheese and cook until sauce is smooth and slightly thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices as desired.
  7. Return steak bites to the skillet and toss in the sauce to coat.
  8. Serve steak bites over cheesy mashed potatoes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use garlic herb butter for extra flavor in the steak or sauce.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the sauce for variety.
  • Try different cheeses in the mashed potatoes or add roasted garlic or chives for a twist.
  • Use freshly grated parmesan for a smoother sauce texture.
  • Reheat mashed potatoes with a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
