This lemon chicken recipe features seared chicken simmered in a bright, garlicky lemon sauce. It’s fresh, flavorful, and easy to make, perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (optional, for dredging)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 large lemon)
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 12 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • Chopped parsley or thyme, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Dredge lightly in flour if desired for a golden crust.
  2. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Pour in chicken broth, lemon juice, and zest. Scrape up browned bits from the pan.
  5. Add honey or maple syrup if using. Simmer sauce for 2–3 minutes to reduce slightly.
  6. Return chicken to the skillet. Spoon sauce over and simmer for 1 more minute to heat through.
  7. Garnish with chopped herbs and serve hot with rice, pasta, or veggies.

Notes

  • Add white wine for more depth of flavor.
  • Stir in capers or olives for a Mediterranean twist.
  • For a creamy variation, add a splash of heavy cream at the end.
  • Cook vegetables like zucchini or spinach in the sauce for a one-pan meal.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
