Ingredients

For the cupcakes:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • Food coloring (optional)

For decorating:

  • Heart-shaped candies
  • Sprinkles
  • Edible glitter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  4. Add dry ingredients in batches, alternating with milk. Mix until smooth.
  5. Fill liners 2/3 full and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. For frosting, beat butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, then vanilla and cream. Beat until fluffy. Tint with food coloring if using.
  7. Frost cooled cupcakes and decorate with heart-shaped candies and sprinkles.

Notes

  • Let cupcakes cool fully before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Use a piping bag with a star tip for swirled frosting.
  • Decorate just before serving to keep candies looking fresh.
