These mummy cookies are a spooky-cute Halloween treat made with soft, fudgy chocolate cookies decorated with vanilla buttercream bandages and candy eyes. They’re festive, fun, and perfect for parties, trick-or-treat gatherings, or cozy family baking nights.

Ingredients

  • For the cookies:
  • All-purpose flour
  • Cocoa powder
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Unsalted butter (softened)
  • Brown sugar
  • Granulated sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • For the decoration:
  • Vanilla buttercream (homemade or store-bought)
  • Candy eyes

Instructions

  1. Make the cookie dough: Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream butter with sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Gradually add dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  2. Bake the cookies: Scoop dough onto a lined baking sheet. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9–11 minutes, until set but still soft. Cool completely before decorating.
  3. Decorate like mummies: Pipe buttercream in crisscross lines to look like mummy bandages. Press two candy eyes into the frosting.
  4. Serve: Let frosting firm slightly, then serve as a festive Halloween treat.

Notes

  • Cookie base: Use sugar or peanut butter cookies instead of chocolate.
  • Color twist: Tint buttercream green or purple with food coloring.
  • Alternative icing: Use melted white chocolate or royal icing instead of buttercream.
  • Eye substitutes: Mini M&Ms or chocolate chips work if candy eyes aren’t available.
