New Orleans Pecan Squares Pralines are chewy, buttery dessert bars packed with brown sugar and chopped pecans, offering all the flavor of classic Southern pralines in an easy-to-make square. They’re a perfect cross between pralines and pecan pie.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Fold in the flour until just combined, then mix in the chopped pecans.
  5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 35–40 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out with a few crumbs.
  6. Cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or splash of bourbon for extra depth.
  • Toasting pecans beforehand enhances the flavor.
  • Drizzle with caramel or add chocolate chips for variation.
