Orange Sorbet is a refreshing, dairy-free frozen dessert made with fresh orange juice, zest, and a touch of lemon for balance. It’s light, sweet, and perfect for hot days or as a citrusy palate cleanser.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp orange liqueur (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. In a bowl, mix orange juice, orange zest, lemon juice, salt, and optional liqueur.
  3. Stir in the cooled syrup until well combined.
  4. For ice cream maker: Chill the mixture and churn per the machine’s instructions.
  5. Without an ice cream maker: Pour into a shallow dish and freeze, stirring every 30–45 minutes for 3–4 hours.
  6. Once smooth and firm, transfer to a container and freeze for 1 more hour before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice for the best flavor.
  • Strain juice to remove pulp for a smoother texture.
  • Adding orange liqueur helps reduce iciness.
  • Mix in blood orange or grapefruit juice for variety.
  • Serve with mint or candied citrus peel for garnish.
