Sausage Rolls are a crowd-pleasing appetizer made with golden, flaky puff pastry wrapped around savory sausage filling. They’re easy to prepare, packed with flavor, and perfect for parties, game days, or holiday spreads.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for binding)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely grated or minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or thyme, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp Dijon or spicy mustard (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix sausage, garlic, onion, herbs, breadcrumbs (if using), mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Lightly roll out puff pastry and cut each sheet into 2 or 3 long strips.
  4. Spoon sausage mixture down the center of each strip, fold pastry over, and seal the edge with water.
  5. Place seam-side down and cut into bite-sized pieces or leave whole to slice after baking.
  6. Brush tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and sausage is fully cooked.
  8. Cool slightly before serving with mustard, ketchup, or preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Try spicy sausage, apple chicken sausage, or add cheese for variation.
  • Top with sesame or poppy seeds for a festive touch.
  • Freeze unbaked rolls and bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven to maintain crispiness.
  • Make vegetarian by using plant-based sausage or a mushroom-lentil filling.
