Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is a comforting classic featuring tender beef patties simmered in a rich onion and mushroom gravy. It’s a cozy, flavorful dish that’s perfect for busy days when you want a hearty meal with minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil (for browning)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (white or cremini)
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into 4–6 patties.
  2. Optional: Brown patties in a skillet with oil over medium-high heat for 2–3 minutes per side to add flavor.
  3. Place sliced onions and mushrooms in the bottom of a slow cooker. Layer patties on top.
  4. Pour beef broth over the patties. Cover and cook on low for 5–6 hours or high for 2–3 hours.
  5. In the last 30 minutes, stir in cornstarch slurry to thicken the gravy.
  6. Serve patties with gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Notes

  • Chill patties for 10–15 minutes before cooking to help them hold shape.
  • Store-bought gravy can be used in a pinch; enhance with onions and mushrooms.
  • Skip mushrooms if desired; the dish is still flavorful.
  • Double the recipe easily, layering ingredients evenly.
