Spiced Pear Berry Crumble is a warm, rustic dessert made with tender pears, juicy mixed berries, and a golden oat topping flavored with cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. It’s easy to make and perfect for fall and winter comfort.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss pears and berries with brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cornstarch until well coated.
  3. Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until mixture forms pea-sized crumbles. Stir in nuts if using.
  6. Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over the fruit.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the top is golden and fruit is bubbling.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use Bartlett or Bosc pears for best texture.
  • Frozen berries work well—no need to thaw, just add extra cornstarch.
  • Add orange zest or vanilla for extra depth in the filling.
  • Make ahead by assembling and refrigerating unbaked for up to 1 day.
  • For gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and certified gluten-free oats.
