A bold and customizable homemade taco seasoning blend made with simple pantry spices, perfect for adding smoky, savory flavor to meats, vegetables, and beans.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Measure all spices into a small bowl.
  2. Whisk or stir until fully combined and evenly blended.
  3. Transfer the seasoning to an airtight spice jar or container if not using immediately.
  4. To use, add about 2 tablespoons of seasoning per 1 pound of ground meat along with 1/4 cup of water. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until the flavors develop and the mixture thickens slightly.

Notes

  • Use 2 tablespoons to replace one standard store-bought taco seasoning packet.
  • Adjust crushed red pepper flakes or add cayenne for more heat.
  • Add a pinch of smoked paprika for deeper smoky flavor.
  • Reduce or omit salt for a low-sodium version.
  • Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.
