These air fryer baked apples are caramelized, tender, and filled with a sweet cinnamon and nut mixture. They capture all the comforting flavors of apple crisp with minimal effort and a quick cooking time, making a perfect healthy dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Apples

  • 4 Honeycrisp apples (about 1/3 lb each)

Filling

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup walnuts or pecans
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Core the apples: Remove the core of each apple with a sharp paring knife or apple corer. If desired, use a spoon to carve out more space inside the apples to better hold the filling.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts or pecans, mixing thoroughly until evenly blended.
  3. Fill the apples: Stuff each hollowed-out apple with the sugar, cinnamon, and nut mixture. Then top each filled apple with 1/2 tablespoon of unsalted butter to add richness and help create a caramelized topping.
  4. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and allow it to preheat for a few minutes to ensure even cooking.
  5. Air fry the apples: Place the filled apples in the air fryer basket, keeping them upright with the filling side up. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the filling is bubbly and caramelized.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Carefully remove the baked apples from the air fryer as they will be hot. Serve warm as a delicious dessert or snack.

Notes

  • Choose firm apples like Honeycrisp to hold their shape well during cooking.
  • You can substitute walnuts with pecans or other nuts according to preference.
  • If you prefer a less sweet dessert, reduce the brown sugar slightly.
  • To add more texture, sprinkle some oats or raisins into the filling mixture.
  • For a richer flavor, drizzle a little honey or maple syrup over the apples before air frying.
  • Let the apples cool for a few minutes before serving as they will be very hot out of the air fryer.
