The Blackberry Bourbon Smash Cocktail is a delightful and refreshing drink that combines the natural sweetness of fresh blackberries with the rich warmth of bourbon. Enhanced by zesty lemon juice, smooth simple syrup, and optional club soda fizz, this cocktail is perfect for summer evenings and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Liquids

  • 2 oz bourbon (Use a smooth, quality bourbon.)
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice (Freshly squeezed is best.)
  • 1 oz simple syrup (Adjust to taste.)
  • Optional: oz club soda (Add to taste for fizz.)

Fruits and Garnishes

  • 68 fresh blackberries (Plus extra for garnish.)
  • 1 sprig fresh mint leaves (For garnish.)

Others

  • As needed cup ice cubes (For serving.)

Instructions

  1. Muddle Blackberries: Place 6 to 8 fresh blackberries into a cocktail shaker and gently muddle them to release their natural juices, creating a fresh and vibrant base for the cocktail.
  2. Add Liquids: Pour 2 oz of bourbon, 1 oz of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 1 oz simple syrup into the shaker. Optionally, add a splash of club soda if you prefer a bit of fizz in your cocktail.
  3. Shake with Ice: Fill the shaker with ice cubes, then securely cover it and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients thoroughly.
  4. Strain Cocktail: Strain the mixture into a glass filled with fresh ice cubes to keep the drink cool without the muddled fruit bits.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Garnish the cocktail with additional fresh blackberries and a sprig of mint. If desired, top with a little more club soda and stir gently to combine for a light, fizzy finish.

Notes

  • Use ripe blackberries for maximum sweetness and flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of simple syrup according to your sweetness preference.
  • For a stronger mint flavor, lightly bruise the mint leaves before garnishing.
  • Chilling your glass beforehand can enhance the drinking experience.
  • The optional club soda adds refreshing bubbles and lightens the drink but can be omitted for a stronger cocktail.
