A simple and delicious recipe for pan-fried asparagus, combining butter, olive oil, and garlic to create a flavorful side dish that’s quick to prepare and perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound fresh asparagus spears, trimmed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Asparagus: Rinse the fresh asparagus spears and trim the tough ends to ensure even cooking and a tender bite.
  2. Heat Butter and Oil: In a large skillet or frying pan, melt the ¼ cup of butter with 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until the butter is fully melted and starts to foam.
  3. Add Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the butter and olive oil mixture and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Cook Asparagus: Add the trimmed asparagus spears to the pan. Toss them gently to coat with the butter, oil, and garlic mixture. Cook the asparagus for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally for even browning, until they are tender but still crisp.
  5. Season: Sprinkle the asparagus with 1 teaspoon of coarse salt and ¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper, adjusting seasoning to your preference. Stir to combine and cook for an additional minute.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately as a flavorful side dish to complement your main course.

Notes

  • You can substitute coarse salt with sea salt or kosher salt if preferred.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic.
  • Make sure not to overcook the asparagus to retain their bright green color and crunch.
  • Leftovers can be reheated gently on the stovetop or enjoyed cold in salads.
