This easy goat cheese appetizer features creamy goat cheese mixed with fresh lemon zest and thyme, then chilled and garnished with thyme sprigs and optional edible flowers. It’s a simple, elegant starter that takes just 10 minutes to prepare, perfect for entertaining or a light snack, served with crackers and honey for drizzling.

Ingredients

Goat Cheese Mixture

  • 4 ounces goat cheese, softened
  • Finely grated lemon zest from 1 medium-size lemon
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves

Garnishes and Serving

  • Fresh thyme leaves and sprigs, for garnish
  • Edible flowers, for garnish (optional)
  • Honey, for drizzling (optional)
  • Crackers, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ramekin: Line a small bowl or ramekin with plastic wrap, ensuring it is as wrinkle-free as possible. Set this aside to hold the cheese mixture.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened goat cheese, finely grated lemon zest, and fresh thyme leaves. Stir thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Pack Mixture: Transfer the goat cheese mixture into the prepared ramekin lined with plastic wrap. Using the back of a spoon, press down firmly to eliminate air pockets. Then fold the excess plastic wrap over the mixture to cover it completely.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the packed mixture for 30 minutes to set. Alternatively, freeze it for 5 to 10 minutes for a quicker set.
  5. Serve: Remove the ramekin from the refrigerator, invert it onto a serving plate to release the goat cheese mound, and carefully peel off the plastic wrap. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves, sprigs, and edible flowers if using. Serve alongside crackers and offer honey for drizzling if desired.
