Deliciously spicy and sweet firecracker shrimp skewers, marinated in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, honey, sriracha, garlic, and sesame oil, then grilled to perfection. Perfect as a quick appetizer or a main dish for any summer cookout or gathering.

Ingredients

Shrimp Marinade and Skewers

  • 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Wooden or metal skewers
  • Chopped green onions and sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Soak Skewers: Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during grilling.
  2. Prepare Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, honey, sriracha, minced garlic, and sesame oil until fully combined.
  3. Marinate Shrimp: Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the marinade. Toss well to coat all shrimp, then let them sit for 15-20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  4. Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat to ensure optimal cooking temperature for the shrimp.
  5. Thread Shrimp on Skewers: Thread the marinated shrimp onto the soaked skewers, leaving small spaces between each shrimp for even cooking.
  6. Grill Shrimp: Place the skewers on the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, turning carefully, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque indicating they are cooked through.
  7. Rest and Garnish: Remove the shrimp skewers from the grill and let them rest for one minute. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • Soaking wooden skewers prevents them from burning on the grill.
  • Adjust sriracha to control the spice level according to your preference.
  • Use metal skewers if you prefer a reusable option; soaking is not necessary for metal.
  • Serve with a side of steamed rice or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • If you don’t have a grill, shrimp can also be cooked in a grill pan on the stovetop.
  • Ensure shrimp are not overcooked to keep them tender and juicy.
