Enjoy a comforting and healthy breakfast with these honey-poached Bosc pears infused with ginger and cinnamon. Served over creamy Greek yogurt and crunchy granola, this recipe offers a perfect balance of natural sweetness, warmth, and texture. Ideal for a wholesome morning meal or a delightful snack, the poached pears can be used in oatmeal or chia pudding as well.

Ingredients

For the Poached Pears:

  • 2 large Bosc pears
  • 1 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Water (about 3 cups, enough to cover pears)

Additional (to Serve):

  • Plain Greek yogurt (to taste)
  • Granola (e.g., Nature’s Path, Oat My Goodness, or Purely Elizabeth)
  • Chopped pistachios or other nuts (optional)
  • Additional freshly grated ginger (optional)
  • Additional sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)
  • Extra honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Poaching Liquid: In a large pot, pour about 3 cups of water—enough to cover the pears. Add freshly grated ginger, honey, and ground cinnamon. Bring the mixture to a low boil to infuse the flavors into the water.
  2. Prepare the Pears: While the liquid heats, peel, core, and quarter the Bosc pears carefully, ensuring the slices are uniform for even cooking.
  3. Poach the Pears: Add the pear quarters to the simmering liquid. Maintain a gentle simmer for 25-30 minutes, allowing the pears to cook through and absorb the ginger, honey, and cinnamon flavors. Test the pears by gently poking with a fork—there should be no resistance when done.
  4. Cool the Pears: Remove the pot from heat and let the pears cool in the poaching liquid to retain moisture and flavor.
  5. Assemble the Bowl: Place two pear quarters atop a bowl of plain Greek yogurt. Sprinkle granola and chopped pistachios over the yogurt and pears. Optionally, add some freshly grated ginger, a dash of cinnamon, and drizzle with extra honey as desired to enhance flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Store leftover poached pear slices submerged in the poaching liquid in an airtight container.
  • Pears can be refrigerated for 3-5 days and enjoyed as a quick breakfast or snack addition.
  • Feel free to customize toppings with your preferred nuts or spices for variety.
