Combining the floral notes of dried culinary lavender with fresh lemon juice, this homemade lemonade offers a unique twist on the classic beverage. Sweetened with sugar and honey and optionally enhanced with a touch of food coloring, it is a delightful and visually stunning party drink.

Ingredients

Liquid Ingredients

  • 6 cups water (1,362 grams), divided
  • 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (454 grams), from 10-12 lemons
  • ¼ cup honey (88 grams)

Sweeteners

  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100 grams)

Flavors and Garnishes

  • 3 tablespoons dried culinary lavender (8 grams), plus more for garnish
  • Blue or purple food coloring (optional, to enhance color)
  • Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Lavender Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine 3 cups of the water with the granulated sugar, honey, and dried culinary lavender. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer gently for about 5 to 10 minutes to infuse the lavender flavor into the syrup.
  2. Strain the Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the lavender syrup cool slightly. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove the lavender buds. Discard the solids and reserve the syrup.
  3. Mix Lemonade: In a large pitcher, combine the lavender syrup with the freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water and stir well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  4. Add Color (Optional): If desired, add a few drops of blue or purple food coloring to enhance the color of the lavender lemonade, stirring gently to mix.
  5. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 2 hours to let the flavors meld and chill it thoroughly. Serve over ice garnished with fresh lemon slices and a sprinkle of dried lavender buds, if desired.
