This Perfect Peach Iced Tea features a simple 3-ingredient peach simple syrup paired with robust black tea, creating a refreshingly sweet and intensely peachy beverage ideal for hot summer days and BBQs. The homemade peach-infused syrup adds a natural fruity depth, while the tea lends a balanced bitterness, making it a perfect lemonade alternative that’s easy to customize to your preferred sweetness and strength.

Ingredients

Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup organic cane sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ripe peaches, thinly sliced (plus more for serving)

Tea

  • 2-3 tablespoons loose leaf black tea (or 3-4 tea bags, adjust strength as preferred)
  • 8 cups filtered water

Instructions

  1. Make the Peach Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and sliced peaches. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Lower heat and use a wooden spoon to gently crush the peaches, releasing their flavor into the syrup. Continue stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Steep the Syrup: Once the sugar is dissolved, cover the saucepan, remove from heat, and let the peach syrup steep for 25-30 minutes to deepen the flavor.
  3. Brew the Tea: While the syrup steeps, brew your black tea using a large pot or tea maker. Use 2-3 tablespoons of loose leaf tea or 3-4 tea bags depending on desired strength. Let steep no longer than 4-5 minutes to avoid bitterness. Remove tea bags or strain out loose leaves once brewed.
  4. Chill the Tea: Transfer the brewed tea to a pitcher and refrigerate until fully cooled.
  5. Strain the Syrup: Strain the peach syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a bottle or container, reserving the peach slices for toppings such as oatmeal or ice cream.
  6. Serve: Serve the tea over ice with fresh peach slices. You can either mix the syrup fully into the tea or offer it separately, allowing guests to sweeten to taste. The recipe yields approximately 10 servings including ice and garnish.

Notes

  • You can adjust the number of tea bags or loose leaf tea to control the strength of your tea.
  • Steeping the syrup for 25-30 minutes helps extract maximum peach flavor.
  • Reserve the strained peach slices for toppings or snacks.
  • The tea and syrup can be stored in the refrigerator; the tea keeps fresh for 4-5 days, and syrup can be frozen as popsicles for up to 1 month.
  • Serve over plenty of ice for a refreshing summer drink.
