This Roasted Garlic-Garlic Bread recipe combines the rich, mellow flavors of slow-roasted garlic with a buttery, herb-infused spread, baked to golden perfection on fresh baguettes. Perfect as a flavorful side dish or appetizer, this recipe offers a delightful twist on classic garlic bread with a hint of heat from red pepper flakes and freshness from parsley.

Ingredients

Garlic Roasting

  • 3 whole heads of Garlic
  • 1 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 1/4 tsp. Black Pepper

Garlic Butter Spread

  • 8 tbsp. Salted Butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup Fresh Parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp. Red Pepper Flakes

Bread

  • 2 Baguettes

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for roasting the garlic.
  2. Prepare Garlic Heads: Peel and discard the papery outer layers of the garlic heads until only the thin skins of the individual cloves remain. Using a sharp knife, cut about 1/4 inch off the top of each head to expose the cloves inside.
  3. Roast Garlic: Place the garlic heads cut-side up on a sheet of aluminum foil. Drizzle the olive oil evenly over them, then season with salt and black pepper. Wrap the garlic tightly in the foil and place it on a baking pan. Roast in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes until the garlic is golden brown and soft.
  4. Make Garlic Butter Spread: Remove the roasted garlic from the oven and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, chopped parsley, and red pepper flakes. Squeeze the roasted garlic cloves out of their skins into the bowl, and mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
  5. Prepare Bread: Slice the baguettes lengthwise down the center to create two halves. Place them cut side up on a baking pan lined with parchment paper.
  6. Assemble Garlic Bread: Spread the roasted garlic butter mixture evenly over each baguette half, ensuring a generous coating to infuse the bread with flavor.
  7. Bake Bread: Place the baking pan in the oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the baguette edges turn golden brown and the bread becomes crispy. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Roasting garlic mellows its sharpness and enhances its natural sweetness, making it perfect for buttery spreads.
  • You can adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your preferred spice level.
  • For even crispier bread, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  • Leftover garlic butter spread can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Use fresh baguettes for the best texture and flavor.
