This Sizzling Garlic Butter Shrimp and Broccoli dish is a quick and flavorful meal perfect for any occasion. Combining succulent shrimp and tender broccoli florets sautéed in aromatic garlic butter, this American gluten-free main dish offers a delightful balance of rich and fresh flavors, enhanced with a hint of lemon and optional red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.

Ingredients

Shrimp and Vegetables

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups broccoli florets

Seasonings and Flavorings

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Peel and devein the shrimp, and rinse the broccoli florets thoroughly to remove any dirt or grit.
  2. Blanch the broccoli: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn bright green and are slightly tender. Immediately transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process and preserve the color and texture.
  3. Melt butter and sauté garlic: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Cook the shrimp: Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook the shrimp for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they turn pink and opaque.
  5. Toss in the broccoli: Add the blanched broccoli florets to the skillet. Toss everything together in the garlic butter sauce for about 1 minute to combine flavors and heat through.
  6. Finish with lemon and garnish: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the shrimp and broccoli mixture. Give it a final toss and transfer to serving plates. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp to prevent a rubbery texture; cook just until shrimp turn pink and opaque.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level or omit if you prefer a milder dish.
