This Summer Citrus Salad is a refreshing, tangy, and colorful dish perfect for warm weather. It features a mix of fresh greens and vibrant citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruit, complemented by creamy avocado, sweet blackberries, and sharp red onions, all tossed in a bright citrus dressing made from fresh juices and honey.

Ingredients

Salad

  • 3 cups mixed greens
  • 2 navel oranges, peeled and sliced into ¼-inch thick slices, seeds removed
  • 1 large grapefruit, peeled and sliced or segmented
  • 1 large avocado, sliced
  • ½ cup blackberries
  • ¼ cup red onions, sliced

Dressing

  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or more to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper (or more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salad Base: Line a large serving bowl with the mixed greens. Neatly arrange the orange slices, grapefruit sections, avocado slices, blackberries, and red onion around and on top of the greens. Finish by seasoning the salad with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Make the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the orange juice, lemon juice, olive oil, honey, salt, and pepper until fully combined and emulsified to create a bright, tangy dressing.
  3. Dress the Salad: Pour the dressing over the prepared salad just before serving, or serve it on the side so guests can add it to their liking.

Notes

  • Make-ahead tip: Prepare all salad ingredients except avocado and store them separately from the dressing in airtight containers in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, slice the avocado fresh, assemble the salad, and add the dressing.
  • Removing seeds from the orange slices ensures a smoother eating experience.
  • This salad is best served immediately after dressing to keep the greens crisp and avocado fresh.
  • You can substitute blackberries with other berries like blueberries or raspberries if desired.
