A quick and visually delightful appetizer combining sweet watermelon, salty feta cheese, and fresh blueberries shaped into festive stars, perfect for summer gatherings or parties. This no-cook recipe is easy to assemble and serves 24, offering a refreshing bite-sized treat.

Ingredients

Fruits

  • 1/2 large watermelon or 1 small watermelon
  • 24 blueberries

Dairy

  • 12 oz / 340 g feta cheese

Instructions

  1. Slice watermelon: Place the watermelon on a cutting board and hold it firmly. Using a long, sharp knife, cut the watermelon into 1/3-inch (1 cm) thick round slices.
  2. Cut out watermelon stars: Take a star-shaped cookie cutter and press it into each watermelon round to cut out star shapes. Arrange the stars closely to maximize usage. Save leftover watermelon for a refreshing watermelon cooler.
  3. Slice feta cheese: Cut the 12 oz block of feta cheese lengthwise into 1/3-inch (1 cm) thick slices, matching the watermelon thickness for uniformity.
  4. Cut out feta stars: Use the star-shaped cookie cutter to form star shapes from the feta slices. Place cuts near each other to minimize waste. Crumble the leftover feta for salads, dips, or marinades.
  5. Assemble skewers: Stack one feta star on top of a watermelon star and then top with a blueberry. Secure the trio with a skewer or toothpick inserted through the center to hold the appetizer together.

Notes

  • Use a star-shaped cookie cutter of about 1.5 to 2 inches for best results.
  • Leftover watermelon can be blended into a delicious, refreshing cooler drink.
  • Leftover feta pieces can be crumbled into salads or used for dips or marinated cheese dishes.
  • Ensure the watermelon slices are firm to cut perfect stars without breaking.
  • Refrigerate the assembled skewers until serving to keep them fresh and cool.
